May 28th Hare Hill Wood
Summary : Overcast and very mild. Temperature dropping to 12.5C. Trap was run from 22:00-00:30h. Total catch consisted of 145 moths of 33 species. A productive warm evening with moths arriving regularly throughout. Good numbers of Silver-ground Carpet and Rivulet, but more unusual species included the area's second Pale Mottled Willow and Red Twin-spot Carpet and the first-ever Pebble Hook-tip. As is seen so often, certain species' often arrive within minutes of each other. Tonight, this applied to most of the seven Pale Tussocks.
         
May 26th Lound Wood
Summary : Partially overcast, becoming clearer. Temperature dropping to 7.5C. Trap was run from 21:45-00:10h. Total catch consisted of 68 moths of 25 species. Scorched Wing and three new micros were all new for the area.
         
May 20th Lound Wood
Summary : Partially overcast but cool and slightly breezy. Temperature remaining at 8.5C. Trap was run from 21:40-22:40h. Total catch consisted of 21 moths of eight species. A poor evening due to the coolness of the conditions.
         
May 18th Hare Hill Wood
Summary : Clear with some high cloud, remaining mild. Temperature remaining at 9C. Trap was run from 21:20-23:30h. Total catch consisted of 61 moths of 17 species. Several new species' on the wing this evening, including Brimstone, Silver-ground Carpet and Green Carpet.
         
May 15th Lound Wood
Summary : Clear, remaining mild. Temperature 15-11C. Trap was run from 21:40-23:15h. Total catch consisted of 60 moths of 17 species. Increase in numbers of Common Pug, Common Carpet and Waved Umber noted.
         
May 14th Hare Hill Wood
Summary : Clear, remaining mild. Temperature 14-8C. Trap was run from 21:20-23:30h. Total catch consisted of 58 moths of 22 species. A varied night with some spectacular species recorded, most arriving during the first hour's trapping. New for the area were Iron Prominent and Lime Hawk-moth. First records for 2004 came from Poplar Hawk-moth, Pebble Prominent, Coxcomb Prominent, Flame Shoulder and Common White Wave.
         
May 13th Lound Wood
Summary : Clear, becoming cool. Temperature quickly dropping from 11-7C. Trap was run from 21:45-23:40h. Total catch consisted of 42 moths of 19 species. New for the area was the Rustic Shoulder-knot, whilst White-spotted Pug was the first here since 2001. Moths arrived quite constantly during the session, though the most notable species' did'nt arrive till past 23:15h.
         
May 11th Lound Wood
Summary : Overcast and fairly mild. Temperature dropping to 11C. Trap was run from 21:25-23:30h. Total catch consisted of 38 moths of 13 species.
         
May 8th Hare Hill Wood
Summary : Overcast with occasional light drizzle, becoming persistant. Temperature 13C. Trap was run for an hour from 21:15-22:15h and trapping stopped due to rain. Total catch consisted of 23 moths of eight species. A worn Dark-barred Twin-spot Carpet was the first of the year.
         
May 6th Lound Wood
Summary : Overcast with some light rain, becoming clearer, with little or no wind. Temperature dropping from 11-7C by the end of the session. Trap was run from 21:30-00:00h. Total catch consisted of 44 moths of 17 species. An interesting cross-section of species, with the first records of Clouded Drab and Engrailed for several weeks. There were first appearances of the year for Chinese Character, Red Chestnut and Incuvaria masculella. Scalloped Hook -tip was a new species for the area.
         
May 2nd Hare Hill Wood
Summary : Overcast then becoming clear, with little or no wind. Temperature dropping from 13.5-10C by the end of the session. Trap was run from 21:15-23:00h. Total catch consisted of 18 moths of 12 species. Some new species for the year again this evening, with White-shouldered House Moth, Pale Prominent, Small Phoenix and Rivulet all recorded. Latticed Heath was a surprise and only the fourth record here.
         
May 1st Lound Wood
Summary : Clear sky. Soon becoming cool with no wind. Temperature dropping to 5.5C by the end of the session. Trap was run from 21:15-22:45h. Total catch consisted of 17 moths of 10 species. Lunar Marbled Browns dominated, with most arriving during the first hour. Temperature dropped soon after dark, allowing few moths to fly.Three new species for the year were Purple Thorn, Scalloped Hazel and Waved Umber.
         
April 24th Hare Hill Wood
Summary : Clear sky. Very mild, no wind. Temperature dropping from 13-8.5C by the end of the session. Trap was run from 20:40-23:00h. Total catch consisted of 22 moths of 13 species. Despite the disappointingly low number of moths, the evening was extremely successful - producing two Graded species and two other moths which were new for the area. These were Red Sword-grass (Grade 2) and Least Black Arches (Grade 3) The other new species were Twenty Plume Moth and Phyllonorycter maestingella.
         
April 22nd Lound Wood
Summary : Clear skies and fairly mild, becoming cooler. Temperature dropping from 11-8.5C - Trap was run from 20:40-22:20h. Total catch consisted of 51 moths of 16 species. Highlight was the Lunar Marbled Brown total, with nearly all examples appearing within the first hour of trapping. Both Pine Beauties arrived simultaneously. Double-striped Pug was the first of the year and only the second area record.
         
April 16th Lound Wood
Summary : Overcast and mild, but feeling much cooler. Temperature dropping 7.5C - Trap was run from 20:30-21:30h. Total catch consisted of 15 moths of just six species. Lunar Marbled Brown was only the second record of this Grade 3 listed Notts moth. Common Pug was first for the year.
         
April 14th Hare Hill Wood
Summary : Largely clear skies and mild. Temperature remaining 7.5C - Trap was run from 20:30-22:00h. Total catch consisted of 17 moths of nine species. Despite the mild temperature, there seemed few moths about. Species caught regularly over the past few weeks, are now dying off and being replaced by new moths just coming on the wing. Streamer and Early Thorn were the first of the year.
         
April 12th Lound Wood
Summary : Largely clear skies. Mild, but feeling cool. Temperature dropping to 6C - Trap was run from 20:30-21:30h. Total catch consisted of 31 moths of 11 species. Despite the mild temperature by the end of the session, the night actually felt quite cool. Highlight was the area's first record of Pine Beauty. The single Pale Brindled Beauty was in extremely poor condition, as are most Common Quakers. No Geometridae flying at all this evening, apart from the one Water Carpet.
         
April 9th Lound Wood
Summary : Overcast with some light rain and mild. Temperature remaining at around 9C - Trap was run from 20:20-22:00h. Total catch consisted of 110 moths of 16 species. A good catch. The highlight was the second area record of Acleris cristana. Most Orthosia sp (Quakers etc) began to arrive regularly from 21:15h onwards.
         
April 1st Lound Wood
Summary : Overcast with brisk south-easterly wind and mild. Temperature remaining at around 7C - Trap was run from 20:20-21:20h. Total catch consisted of 15 moths of seven species. First record for 2004 of Emmelina monodactyla. Despite mild conditions, very few moths were flying.

March 31st Lound Wood
Summary : Clear skies, light easterly wind. Fairly mild but feeling cool. Temperature dropping from 9-6C - Trap was run from 20:15-21:35h. Total catch consisted of 59 moths of 12 species.
         
March 28th Hare Hill Wood
Summary : Clear skies with no wind, fairly mild, but feeling cool. Temperature dropping from 8 - 5.5C - Trap was run from 20:15-21:35h. First records of Yellow Horned, Pale Brindled Beauty and Oak Beauty from this site. Most moths started to appear from around 20:45h. Total catch consisted of 55 moths of 13 species.
         
March 26th Lound Wood
Summary : Overcast throughout with no wind, remaining mild. Temperature remaining reasonably constant at 7C - Trap was run from 19:05-20:35h. Moths were arriving constantly throughout the session. Early Grey was a first for the area and the Oak Beauty was the first in over a month. Grey Shoulder-knot was a nice record. Total catch consisted of 163 moths of 18 species.
         
March 22nd Hare Hill Wood
Summary : Clear skies and no wind, soon becoming rather cool. Temperature soon dropping to 5C - Trap was run from 18:50-20:00h. A poor session with few moths. The first half hour produced only a single Small Quaker, but by 19:45, more moths were steadily arriving. Total catch consisted of 21 moths of four species.
         
March 17th Lound Wood
Summary : Clear skies but mild, no wind. Temperature 9C dropping to 7C - Trap was run from 18:45-20:15h. Total catch consisted of 141 moths of 15 species. Mild weather over the past few days allowed good numbers of most species to hatch, especially The Engrailed and Brindled Pug. All Yellow Horned moths appeared within a short space of time around 19:50h. In general, moths began to arrive in increasing numbers from 19:30h.
         
March 13th Lound Wood
Summary : Clear skies and feeling cold in westerly wind. Temperature 6.5C - Trap was run from 18:45-19:45h. Mostly Orthosia sp again, with two Small Quakers being first of the year. Total catch consisted of 28 moths of seven species.
         
March 8th Lound Wood
Summary : Partially overcast, becoming cold with light northerly wind. Temperature 4C - Trap was run from 18:30-19:30h. Clearing skies meant moths stopped flying and none arrived after 19:00h. Clouded Drab was first for the year and all moths were Orthiosa sp. Total catch consisted of 10 moths of four species.

March 6th Lound Wood
Summary : Clear and cold, light NW wind. Temperature 2C - Trap was run from 18:30-19:30h, with all moths appearing within the first 20 minutes of the trap being switched on. Clear sky with near-full moon and a light (but cold) North-westerly wind were detrimental to trap list. Total catch consisted of 11 moths of five species.
         
March 4th Lound Wood
Summary : Thin cloud, no wind. Temperature 3C - dropped quickly at dusk. Trap run for an hour from 18:25-19:25pm. Most moths arrived steadily until few after 19:15h. Yellow Horned was one which arrived five minutes later and is new for the area, along with Acleris ferrugana. Total catch 41 moths of 11 species.
 
February 16th Lound Wood
Summary : Cloudy with little wind. Catch consisted of 49 moths of nine species in 1 hour trapping time (18:10-19:10h) from dusk onwards. Temperature 8C. Two new moths for the area were Oak Beauty and Acleris hastiana. The occurrence of The Engrailed, beat last year's earliest date of March 1st, by some considerable margin.
