There has been a real requirement among many of Nottinghamshire's moth trappers for an official, easily accessible and up to date list of all macro moths recorded in the county for many years.

Not since 1993, has any similar list been published, so the production and publication of this list of Nottinghamshire macro moths, at least marks a long overdue and progressive step in the right direction.

This list contains all the larger moths recorded in Nottinghamshire and is correct as of November 2013. All species listed have officially been accepted as genuine records by Dr Sheila Wright, the Nottinghamshire macro moth recorder, who produced, checked and sent us the original list she maintains, for us to finalise our own existing researched and sourced list.

Records have been sourced from a number of local moth recorders, who were kind enough to send us their personal county species lists after a public appeal to help us begin constructing a complete and up to date Nottinghamshire lepidoptera list. We have declined this opportunity to publish the current national or county status of any of the species listed, feeling that it is the job of the county recorder(s). However, incorporating the status of species, may be something we would consider at a later date, if enough people requested it.

The Nottinghamshire micro moth list is still in production, but very near completion (02/11/13) and will be published in due course. We will also be producing a pdf file of the completed list.

The numbers before each entry are the "Bradley and Fletcher numbers", or Log Book numbers from "A Recorder's Log Book or Label List of British Butterflies and Moths" by J.D. Bradley and D.S. Fletcher. Species names and Bradley and Fletcher number order, are as currently listed on the UK Moths website and in some cases are not in sequence.
