Red-belted Clearwing Synanthedon myopaeformis (Borkhausen, 1789)
Once a very rare species to find in Nottinghamshire, with few old records. Howerver, the use of artificial pheremone lures has certainly changed the county status of this moth. There is evidence to suggest that it is increasing it's range and the use of pheremone lures in the northern half of the county, may prove quite productive.

The moth illustrated here, was one of two attracted to lure within five minutes in a Mapperley garden, where there are a number of old apple trees in neighbouring gardens. Such suburban habitat generally proving to be most productive for this moth..
