First recorded in Nottinghamshire when several mines were found on
a single leaf at Retford (Pendleton, T.A.)
in August 2025, this immediately followed by a record from the
site of a former garden centre at Bulcote
(Brownley, N. and Brownley,S.), a matter of hours after I had
found it at Retford. It had previously been looked for at a number of
sites, over a number of years, and yet within the space of two days,
Phyllocnistis xenia was suddenly recorded from Ollerton Pit
Woods, Edwinstowe, the site of the former Bilsthorpe Colliery, Warsop
Main Pit Top, Mansfield Woodhouse and Farndon. In September, it was
found in the south of the county, at Rushcliffe CP
(Shields, T.).
Likely to be present on suitable White Poplar growing anywhere in Nottinghamshire.
There are usually a number of
mines per leaf, certainly at the sites mentioned, and there was a
preferance for large, fresh leaves on suckering, or low growth. |
