Until only a few years ago, this moth was still rare at sites along the
UK's south coast, but in recent years, there has been considerable
change in the status of this beautiful moth and it is being quite
regularly recorded now in many inland counties.
There are currently nine Nottinghamshire records (as of September 2024) of this stunning Pyralid. One taken at light from Hagg
Wood, Newstead Park on October 30th
1992 (Cooper,
K.), remained Nottinghamshire's only record until 2020, until
one was recorded from Stanton-on-the-Wolds on July 21st 2020
(Mathers, S.), then another
recorded from a
Colwick garden on October 25th 2022 (Shields,
T.) and East Bridgford on October 9th 2023 (Reece, J. and Reece, L.). The
most recent records are from 2024, including singles at Elkesley
on August 5th (Coombes, P.), Newark
August 26th (Atkinson, D.), East
Bridgford again on August 27th (Reece, J. and Reece, L.), Keyworth August 28th (Pinder, N.)
and Langford Lowfields September 7th 2024
(Morton, D. and Ashley, A.).
Grateful
thanks go to Jason and Lily Reece, for providing me the specimen showed
