Lunar-spotted Pinion Cosmia pyralina ([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)
Very rare in Nottinghamshire and seemingly last recorded from Newark in2004 (Atkinson, D.). There is an undated record from Bunny (Marchant, M.) but this moth has remained on most people's wanted list. The larvae feed on Elm (Ulmus sp), so it is perhaps surprising that it has not done as well as some other Elm feeding species. Thanks to Andy Adcock for allowing the use of his photograph of one of two Carlton records (below left) and to Tim Sexton for the photograph below right, which was recorded from Rutland Water in July 2021.
