Status
.....A common migrant to coastal
areas, but although inland records are still quite uncommon, this moth
is another one time migrant which seems to be on the point of becoming established
in Nottinghamshire, in much the
same way as White-point Mythimna
albipuncta seems to have done.
Until 2023, the only recent
Nottinghamshire record was from Scarrington on September
26th 2006 (Gilbert, E.
and Henstock, K.). But there has been a pronounced increase in
records of Delicate since 2022, following a succession of records from
Broadholme on October 25th 2022, then September 22nd and October
25th 2023. Six other sites produced records in 2023, most from the very
south of the county. These included records from Underwood
and Bramcote on September 15th, followed by records from West Bridgford,
East Bridgford, Cotgrave Forest and Keyworth in October.
2024
records from Nottinghamshire included singles from Broadholme again on
July 14th and 19th, September 6th and October 15th (Gray, M.),
Attenborough NR September 13th (Thatcher, R.),
Cotgrave Forest September 20th (Dulwich, P.),
Ravenshead October 7th (McGeever, D.), Stanton-on-the Wolds
on October 13th
(Mathers, S.) and on July 17th and October 20th
(Sumbler, M.). Amongst the county's other records, were moths
from near Newark October 16th
(Hunt, M.), East Bridgford
(Reece, J. and
Reece, L.) and Misterton
(Lee, P.) on October 24th with another there on October 30th,
then two at East Bridgford
again on October 27th (Reece, J. and
Reece, L.).
In addition to these, there were multiple
records from Keyworth between October 14th and November 3rd
(Pinder, N.) and records
from West Bridgford October 18th
(Freestone, R.) and Upper Saxondale on November 1st
2024
(Cooper, C.).
A note on Broadholme records:
Broadholme is in vice county VC56 of Nottinghamshire (which is covered
by www.eakringbirds.com), but not in the administrative county of
Nottinghamshire on which the county's moth records are based by
the county macromoth recorder. As such, no Broadholme records appear in
any county reports, but they are officially recognised by Butterfly
Conservation as being Nottinghamshire records. |
