.....Once a real rarity inland across the UK, but in
recent years there has been an increase in the number of records and it
is probable, that this moth is now breeding here. Consequently, the
number of Nottinghamshire records is likely to increase in the coming
years. Nottinghamshires records include singles from Scarrington on
September 26th 2006 (Gilbert, E.
and Henstock, K.).
But there has been a pronounced increase in records of Delicate since
2022, following a succession of records from Broadholme on October 25th
2022, then September 22nd and October 25th 2023. Six other sites
produced records in 2023, most from the very south of the county. These
included records from Underwood and
Bramcote on September 15th, followed by records from West Bridgford,
East Bridgford, Cotgrave Forest and Keyworth in October. The most recent
records are from Broadholme again on July 14th,19th and September 6th
2024 (Gray, M.).
Grateful thanks go to Martin Gray, for kindly providing the accompanying photograph
illustrating this species.
A note on Broadholme records:
Broadholme is in vice county VC56 of Nottinghamshire (which is covered
by www.eakringbirds.com), but not in the administrative county of
Nottinghamshire on which the county's moth records are based by
the county macromoth recorder. As such, no Broadholme records appear in
any county reports, but they are officially recognised by Butterfly
Conservation as being Nottinghamshire records. |
