Only recorded new to Nottinghamshire in 2024, when larval cases
were found on Hawthorn at Broadholme in June 2024 by Martin Gray. This
was quickly followed by the county's second record, when Graham Beeley
found a larval case on Birch at the former Rufford Colliery site in July
2024. Fortunately, Graham photographed the case he found and it was
later confirmed as being C.siccifolia by the county recorder
Martin Gray.
The larva of this species matures later than that of the much commoner
Coleophora serratella, the larva of which constructs a similar
case, so any late 'serratella-like' cases on trees such as
Hawthorn, Mountain Ash, Birch or Apple, should be checked for
C.siccifolia. |
