Blossom Underwing Orthosia miniosa ([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)
Status .....It seems unlikely that this moth has ever really been perminently resident in Nottinghamshire before and indeed, it declined generally from many UK sites over the past decades, with many recent UK records thought to refer to migrants from the continent. The one illustrated, was trapped at MV light and photographed by Tim Sexton at Attenborough NR in April 2019, which followed one at Broadholme on 22/04/11 (Gray, M.). Both these records were the first in the county for over a century.

But it seems that there may be a potentially developing story regarding this species, with a cluster of records from the south-east of the county in 2024 and 2025, featuring singles attracted to light at Saxondale on 22/03/24 (Cooper, C.) East Bridgford on 26/03/25 and again on 11/04/25 (Reece, J. and Reece, L.), from Dewberry Hill GC on 12/04/25 (Dulwich, P.). and Stanton-on-the-Wolds on 19/03/26 (Mathers, S.). Current speculation is along the lines that this moth is in the process of colonising Nottinghamshire, which has been somewhat confirmed by the discovery of numerous larvae at the former Calverton Colliery site in May 2026 (Brownley, N. and Brownley, S.).
