Anania crocealis (Hübner, 1796)
This surprisingly small moth with a wingspan of around 25mm, appears to be rare in Nottinghamshire and although on the county list, no records can currently be traced. Certainly, the record of the moth trapped by Paul Coombes at Elkesley in September 2024 and photographed below, is the only modern record of this moth. Anania crocealis inhabits fens, marshes and damp sites, so it ought to be present at sites along the Trent Valley. Grateful thanks go to Paul Coombes for providing the moth for inclusion here.
