..... Until very recently, not recorded or known from
anywhere in Nottinghamshire since the publication of J.W.Carr's book
'The Invertebrate Fauna of Nottinghamshire. Nottingham: J.& H. Bell Ltd
(1916)'. Nationally, Light Orange Underwing is restricted to southern
and south-eastern parts of the UK, but it does occur in neighbouring
Lincolnshire and there is a solitary record from Leicestershire and
Rutland.
But on 19/03/26, a number of moths believed to be Orange Underwing Archiearis parthenias,
were seen and photographed at Cotgrave Country Park
(Cooper, C., Searle, M. and Searle C.).
Steve Mathers visited the site the next day and later posted a number of
photographs on Facebook, which were suspected as
possibly being Light Orange Underwing by Mark Skevington. The suspicion proved correct when specimens were
netted and photographed the following day, with a male showing the
typical feathered antennae of this species, which Orange Underwing doesn't have.
The county recorder later confirmed the moth's identification, via gen
