Large Red-belted Clearwing Synanthedon culiciformis (Linnaeus, 1758)
Status .....Has been found commonly on Budby South Forest in the early 2000's, but has since become scarce. A difficult Clearwing to get to come to pheremone lures and the only records we had at one point, were of pupal exuviae (two records) and an adult found nectaring on Cow Parsley at Sherwood Forest CP on May 31st 2010. In 2023, good numbers could be found in part of Clipstone Old Quarter, egg-laying on fresh-cut Birch stumps, felled the previous Winter.
