The 1998 breeding bird survey found a total of 43 pairs across the area and Whitethroat continued to be successful over the next ten years, showing relatively little variation in the number of breeding pairs. The majority of territories were along trimmed roadside hedgerows, especially where there was some Bramble or Nettle growth. Overgrown hedgerow habitats were rarely favoured for nesting.
