Stigmella lapponica (Wocke, 1862)
Status .....A fairly common leaf mine in the Sherwood Forest area, but would probably prove to be more widespread with more recorder effort. The mine of Stigmella confusella is found on Birch and identifiable from the similar mine of Stigmella confusella, by the fact that the first third, or quarter of the mine of Stigmella lapponica, is filled with green frass, whereas Stigmella confusella forms a very thin line of black frass throughout the mine. Leaf mines of both species, have been found on the same tree.
