Bird-cherry Ermine Yponomeuta evonymella (Linnaeus, 1758)
Status .....Quite common and widespread across Nottinghamshire. The identification of all Yponomeuta is notoriously difficult, although this species has five rows of fine black dots on the forewing, which does make it easier to identify. The larvae can often be found in huge numbers (as per 2025) and can be safely identified to species level by the foodplant. Bird Cherry Prunus padus, Wild Plum Prunus americana and Mountain Ash Sorbus aucuparia are favoured.
