Willow Ermine Yponomeuta rorrella (Hübner, 1796)
Status .....Widespread but uncommon in the UK. In Nottinghamshire, Willow Ermine seems restricted to a few wetland areas, but it is probably a much more widespread moth than records would indicate and as many people steer clear of most Yponomeuta species, there must be some under-recording. We have found the larvae near Mansfield Woodhouse and at Colwick CP, and the larval webs are extremely conspicuous.

The identification of all the Yponomeuta is notoriously difficult without dissection, but the adults of this species have a distinct grey suffusion to the wings, making them easy to determine. The larvae of all the Yponomeuta though, are much easier to determine than the adults, and can be safely identified by the foodplant.
