Bordered Straw Heliothis peltigera ([Denis & Shiffermüller] 1775)
Status .....An annual migrant to southern areas of the UK, but much rarer inland and far from being annual in VC56. At one time Bordered Straw was considered a more commonly occurring migrant than Scarce Bordered Straw, but the status of both species seems to have reversed over the past decade. Bordered Straw continues to be very unpredictable in its appearances in VC56.

Recent records (post-2000) include two moths taken on the same night at Newark and Sutton-on-Trent on August 4th 2003, which remained the only records for several more years. It was expected to occur during the big migration year of 2006, but failed to turn up really, apart from moths at Colwick CP, Chilwell and Keyworth.

2015 represented a much better year, with records from Market Warsop, Bestwood, Keyworth, Stanton-on-the-Wolds, Misterton, Ravenshead and Hollyside, but it has since continued to be somewhat sporadic in its occurences and not until 2022, was it reported from a number of sites including West Bridgford, East Markham, Misterton, Attenborough, Stanton-on-the-Wolds and Keyworth.

Following something of an influx into parts of the UK during the latter part of June 2025, there were numerous Nottinghamshire records, initially with singles at East Bridgford on June 24th, 25th and August 10th, Keyworth on June 24th, Stanton-on-the-Wolds June 25th, Lound Wood June 29th, before further records from several sites, likely from a resultant second brood during August.
