An extremely vocal Water Rail was in the reeds around the inflow pipe at Eakring Flash this morning. Two Teal were at the southern-end of the flash, with another six on Penny Pasture Common. | |||

Very quiet in the area again today. Small groups of Redwing and Fieldfare were around Eakring Flash and the Pastures areas. Some evidence of large gulls moving through with 27 Herring Gull high south-west. | |||

The regular Common Buzzard near Eakring Flash again this morning. | |||

A few finches went through this morning, including a welcome record of two Brambling flying east over Eakring Flash. 11 Snipe were around Eakring Meadows, with 180 Fieldfare at Penny Pasture Common and 50+ Meadow Pipits in fields south of the minor road there. | |||

A much
better day today. A drake Goosander was
on Eakring Flash till mid-morning when it flew off west
and a Water Rail was in the Bulrushes at
the southern-end of Eakring Flash. Also there briefly this morning was a male Merlin which was unsuccessfully hunting a Sky Lark for five minutes, before flying of north (14th area record) Finches in the area included seven mobile Lesser Redpoll at Eakring Flash with two Siskin over there. Odd Goldfinch, Greenfinch and Chaffinch continue to move south. |
