Genuine migrant Collared
Doves are extremely difficult to detect (if they occur at
all) but there is no doubt that some movement takes place
during the Autumn. Moving birds have been recorded
occasionally here since 1998, but rather than long
distance migration in the Autumn, any movements are most
likely to be quite localised (probably within five miles)
Potential migrants fly low and direct, in a manner very
similar to the Turtle Dove. At Eakring, Collared Doves
are rare away from areas of human habitation and farms
etc, and a conscious effort was made in 2009 to begin
determining any definite migration during Spring and
Autumn. |
