Pammene aurana (Fabricius, 1775)
Status .....This moth has a scattered Nottinghamshire distribution, but should occur more widely than is showed on the distribution map below.  It is certainly common, being found widely in suitable habitat at the Idle Valley NR and throughout the wider Sherwood Forest area. Adults are commonly seen nectaring on the flowers of Hogweed Heracleum sphondylium growing along woodland rides. Eggs are laid at regular intervals by the female, as she works her way up a stem of Hogweed.
