Coleophora gryphipennella (Hübner, 1796)
Status ..... A generally widespread moth across the UK, but we found the larval cases difficult to find. Various sized cases were eventually located at Hills and Holes SSSI, on Dog Rose (Rosa canina) growing in very sheltered locations. The lower right photograph shows typical feeding damage and a section of cut out leaf, used to create one of the recently formed larval cases (bottom right).
Adult, reared ex-larval case. Photographed May 2014
Photographed at Hills and Holes SSSI Market Warsop October 2013
