Featuring news and sightings from Eakring

June 7th
Both male Grasshopper Warblers were reeling briefly at Eakring Flash during the late evening. The area has remained very quiet since the beginning of June.

June 12th
A drake Teal was present at Eakring Flash. Though not unheard of here in June, the record is unusual.

June 18th
Two reeling Grasshopper Warblers were again at Eakring Flash this evening and showed occasionally. Little else in the area, but several Little Owls can be seen at various roadside locations.

June 22nd
A new male Grasshopper Warbler was found this afternoon, singing and showing openly in Oil-seed Rape near Eakring Flash. This is the third singing male of the year and it's arrival is not entirely unusual for the date. Some south-easterly Swift movement also today, with 53 counted moving through within an hour.

June 25th
Quiet during a late morning visit today, but a male Ruddy Duck was on Eakring Flash and was the first of the year. With many birds shot by DEFRA at many UK sites over the Winter, Ruddy Duck may soon become a real rarity over the next few years.

June 26th
Large numbers of Swifts in the area late morning, with at least 275 counted, many of which were heading south-east before the onset of rain. At Eakring Meadows, a second male Turtle Dove was in song and a Common Buzzard was in the Kersall area.

June 27th
Still at least two male and one female Grasshopper Warblers at the southern-end of Eakring Flash, where the drake Ruddy Duck remains.
