December 5th
A drake Mandarin was a rare Eakring Flash visitor this afternoon and along with four Mallard, was the only duck present. Mandarin's used to be more common along The Beck at Eakring Meadows and around Kersall, but this was the first sighting this year.

Other birds in the area included at least two Water Rail at Eakring Flash, with birds on both the east and western sides and over 270 Fieldfare were in fields opposite Tug Bridge Farm, with Common Buzzard there. The resident pair of Little Owls are continuing to show very well along the Kneesall Road.

 
     
December 8th
Two Common Buzzards were over Lound Wood this afternoon. Now 72 Teal on the small pool at Penny Pasture Common, Eakring Meadows.
 
December 12th
A Common Buzzard flew over Eakring Flash mid-afternoon, with one Water Rail still at the southern-end.
 
December 19th
One Common Buzzard in the Lound Wood/Eakring Flash area this afternoon, with nine Teal there.
 
December 25th
A Common Buzzard was in the Lound Wood/Red Hill area this morning.
 
December 26th
A drake Goosander flew north over Eakring Flash early morning. At Eakring Meadows, an adult Peregrine was over Penny Pasture Common hunting the 40+ Teal present there - one of which it was seen to catch successfully. One/two Common Buzzards in the Hare Hill Wood area today.
 
December 30th
An excellent record for the area, was of a Barn Owl along the Eakring-Wellow minor road this evening. The bird was hunting the roadside verges near to Wellow village and just within the recording area boundaries. This is also the first Barn Owl sighting of the current year (per D Burrows)
