This small ant, with a worker length of between 2.3mm and 3.5mm) is
not currently known from Nottinghamshire. However, being a species which
exists in small, discreet colonies in hollow twigs and fallen acorns, it
is unlikely to be found by anyone willing to take up such a daunting
challenge. Temnothorax nylanderi has a rather patchy range
across south-eastern parts of the UK, with distinct concentrations
around the London area, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk. But its
westerly range reaches west of Birmingham, with isolated records further
north. |
