Scaeva selenitica (Meigen, 1822)
A fairly large species which is extremely similar to Eupeodes luniger. However, Scaeva selenitica is noticably larger and also quite a confiding hoverfly. It favours Pine plantations such as Clipstone Old Qaurter in Sherwood Forest, where this one was photographed in early July 2008.
