| Lymexylon
navale is an extremely slender species and unlikely
to be confused with any other beetle. Belonging to the Lymexylidae
family, of which there are just three species in
Europe and just two in the UK. During a survey of
Sherwood Forest in July 2008, we found just one adult
which was resting on the trunk of an Oak. Further
research has revealed that this beetle is currently
classed as vulnerable and RDB2. This is
the first record of L. navale in both
Nottinghamshire and Sherwood Forest and a follow up
record of a male, found dead in a spiders web came in
2010. |
