Cercyon marinus (Thomson, C.G., 1853)
One of a number of similar species, Cercyon marinus is widespread across much of the UK, but in Nottinghamshire is mostly a beetle of Trent Valley sites. The one photographed was attracted to the garden MV light, which is run in Market Warsop. As with many beetles, it turned up on a typically warm and humid July evening. Virtually all of the county's records are due to the recording efforts of Bob Merritt in the 1990's.
