Cantharis pallida (Goeze, 1777)
Cantharis pallida is just one of several similarly coloured beetles belong to the Cantharidae family, more commonly known as Soldier Beetles. There are about 40 UK species and they are frequent visitors to thistles and umbelliferous flowers, where they probably prey on other flower-feeding insects. Cantharis pallida is extremely similar to Cantharis cryptica and there are few recent records away from the sandy soils of the Sherwood Forest area. Likely to be under-recorded.
