Aplocnemus impressus (Marsham, 1802)
This uncommon beetle (Nationally notable B) was the first Sherwood Forest record since 1924, although the very similar A. nigricornis was found as recently as 1978. Aplocnemus impressus shows much more of a metallic reflection to the elytra than these photographs suggest, and the long hairs are distinctive under a lens. This one was found on the trunk of a Birch at Sherwood Forest CP, on a warm April day in 2010.
