Pocadius ferrugineus (Fabricius, 1775)
This is a small (4mm) uncommon beetle, which seems to be more incommon than the very similar Pocadius adustus. Like that species, Pocadius ferrugineus and is associated with the common Puff-ball fungi Lycoperdon pyriforme, but occurs on other fungi. Perhaps the easiest way of determining the two Pocadius species, is by examining the hairs along the outer edge of the elytra. In P. ferrugineus, these hairs are longer than those on P. adustus. The specimen below, was kindly supplied by Nick and Samantha Brownley.
