Philonthus rectangulus (Sharp, 1874)
There appear to be no published records of this decent sized Staphylinid from Nottinghamshire. Found in a sample of horse manure from near Inkersall Grange near Bilsthorpe, it proved (like most Staphs) to be a difficult subject to obtain useable photographs of, and actually took two days. Probably more common than it would appear, dung sampling would seem the best method of finding further records of this species.
