Philonthus cruentatus (Gmelin in Linnaeus, 1790)
This is just one of many Philonthus Rove Beetles, so identification is never an easy task. Philonthus cruentatus is largely unrecorded in the county, with just a single other record we know of, from the Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust's reserve at Bunny Old Wood in 1986. We found this particularly photogenic and obliging individual, on vegetation at Wellow Park in July 2017.
