Lochmaea caprea (Linnaeus, 1758)
This leaf beetle is quite common on both Birch and Sallow at Sherwood Forest, both at the Country Park and on Budby South Forest. Lochmaea cuprea is more frequently found on Sallow, but does occur on Birch, usually favouring young plants. There are similar species which do make identification difficult. Photographed in early May 2010.
