Catops tristis (Panzer, 1793)
Catops tristis is one of 12 very similar Catops species, which belong to the Leiodidae family. It is a group that are very difficult to separate. Measuring just 4.5mm in length, this one was photographed at Sherwood Forest in November 2008 and they are common in carrion. Several of these were under a dead Longhorn calf, found in the forest during a Coleoptera survey in October
