Calathus melanocephalus (Linnaeus, 1758)
Calathus melanocephalus is a distinctive Ground Beetle, measuring around 9mm in length. The one photographed, was one of several found in the gardens of Sherwood Forest Farm Park, near Market Warsop. The gardens are on sandy soil, which this species favours, but we have also recorded it at Nettleworth Manor and Budby South Forest. Photographed in August 2010 (top photographs) and September 2008.
