Acilius sulcatus
This is a large Water Beetle which was caught in flight, well away from water on a sunny and warm September afternoon in the Red Hill area of Eakring. Acilius sulcatus is a distinctively marked species, relatively easy to identify, but there are some similar species. We have also recorded this beetle from Budby South Forest, a record which was the first for the Sherwood Forest NNR in 2009.
