Tipula varipennis (Meigen, 1818)
Tipula Crane Flies are difficult to identify unless using an identification key, so great care has to be taken. This Tipula varipennis was photographed in Lound Wood in early May 2011. It's a common species, usually found in damp wooded areas and flies quite early in the year.
