Tipula lateralis (Meigen, 1804)

Tipula lateralis is an early Spring Crane Fly and presumably quite widespread within Nottinghamshire. As with many Crane Flies, identification is not always straight forward, but this species can be identified by the combination of abdominal markings, wing pattern and venation. This male was photographed in early April 2011 at Eakring Meadows NR.
