Oxycera rara (Scopoli, 1763)
Oxycera rara is one of around 50 UK species of Soldier Flies. Easily mistaken at first for Hoverflies, these often brightly coloured insects are frequently found resting on foliage. This Oxycera rara was found in a shaded area of Warsop Main Pit Top in July 2009.
