Nephrotoma flavescens
This well marked Crane Fly is one of the so called Tiger Crane Flies, through its combination of yellow and black markings. There are numerous species, all very similarly marked and difficult to identify correctly. This Nephrotoma flavescens was found at Sherwood Heath in early July 2011. There are very few Sherwood Forest records, due largely to a lack of regular recording of the NNR's Diptera.
