Nephrotoma crocata (Linnaeus, 1758)
This beautiful Crane Fly was recorded briefly near Calverton in June 2022 by Nick and Samantha Brownley. Nephrotoma crocata is a stunning species and a rare species too in Nottinghamshire, with this being the first traceable record since 1925. There are a handful of older Nottinghamshire records, including one in close proximity to this, so it is likely to have been overlooked here in the past almost 100 years. Grateful thanks go to Nick Brownley for allowing his photograph to be used to illustrate the species here.
