Scarab Shieldbug Thyreocoris scarabaeoides (Linnaeus, 1758)
A small Shieldbug (this one was just 4mm long) which was found on grass in an open area of Sherwood Forest CP in May 2010. The Scarab Shieldbug (formerly called the Negro Bug) is unusual in that the scutellum covers most of the abdomen. The adult is associated with Violets and Field Pansy, so this record is all the more surprising, considering the fact that Sherwood Forest is virtually devoid of Viola spp.
