Magdalis carbonaria
A quite large black weevil which we saw alight onto a fresh log pile at Sherwood Forest CP in June 2010. Prior to this latest record, Magdalis carbonaria has only been recorded once before in 1905 at the Sherwood Forest NNR. This weevil currently has Nationally Notable B status. There are similar species, so identification is always quite difficult to achieve.
