Hyphydrus ovatus (Linnaeus, 1761)
Despite being a difficult group to identify, it is still surprising that Water Beetles have been largely overlooked amongst those observers recording within the Sherwood Forest NNR. Hyphydrus ovatus was found commonly in the pool on Budby South Forest in August 2009, but turns up at many well vegetated still-water bodies. Length around 4.5mm.
