Hypera
conmaculata (formerly known as Hypera pollux) visually resembles several other species of Hypera.
Knowing the foodplant can help considerably with
identification, but this seems to be a rare find in
Nottinghamshire. Having said that, Hypera conmaculata will probably be abundant wherever it occurs. We found
both larvae and the 'cage-like' cocoons to be numerous in
a ditch near the Railway Pit at Hoveringham, in late July
2017 and at Holm Pierrepont in May 2024). All the pupae originally collected, proved to be
parasitised, so a return trip was needed to photograph
the adults. |
