Dytiscus marginalis (Linnaeus, 1758)
A very large and impressive water beetle found in generally still, or slow moving, well vegetated water bodies. Going completely (and quite correctly) by the fabulous survey work of Bob Merritt throughout Nottinghamshire over a number of years, Dytiscus marginalis is not as widespread as may be thought and like many other aquatic beetles, will turn up at MV light traps, such as the one illustrated below from Misson Carr NR, which ended a lifetime's wait to see this beetle in September 2023.
