Donacia vulgaris (Zschach, 1788)
A common leaf beetle, recorded from the edges of ponds and other water sources. The larvae are aquatic, but the adults can be found on Bulrush and other reeds, usually quite low down. This is a fairly large species, measuring around 12mm. These adults were found at Eakring Flash in early August 2009 and again in early May 2011. More recently, we found this beetle at Warsop Main Pit Top in May 2013, where the upper four photographs were taken.
