Cantharis thoracica (Olivier, 1790)
Apparently C. thoracica is a scarce and local Soldier Beetle in the UK, preferring vegetation in fens, rivers, ponds and other damp sites. It seems quite easy to sweep from such vegetation at Penny Pasture Common, where several were found in July 2009. This is quite a small species, measuring around 9mm. There are several other species, which are very similarly marked/coloured, so care has to be taken when identifying.
