Bibio varipes (Meigen, 1830)
Very similar in appearance to several other Bibio species, Bibio varipes has never been well recorded in Nottinghamshire. The NBN Atlas lists just two records, both of which date back to the early part of the last century. The often complete lack of recent Diptera records in Nottinghamshire is not unusual and a female B. varipes recorded at Wellow Park in early May 2017, may well be the first county record in nearly a century. It has since also ben found at Sherwood Fores CP.
