Agriotes sputator (Linnaeus, 1758)
Agriotes sputator has a rather unusual distribution in VC56, with an obvious link to sites along the River Trent, but it has also been recorded from Clumber Park, Lady Lea Quarry at Worksop and Bentinck Banks in western areas of Nottinghamshire. Either way, this is not the commonest of the brown Click Beetles and is easily mistaken for Agriotes obscurus. Often found under wood in early Spring.
